CHAPTER 16

Travelling by plane from Dublin back to England, Roy and Sandra both slept most of the way as it was an evening flight and Sandra’s thoughts were on Dan and how she could approach him to tell him she was his big sister.

The air hostess stood at the back of the plane and held up her arms.

‘Everyone, please fasten your seatbelts, we arrive in ten minutes,’ she called.

Doris was waiting to meet them with Tom and Jessica at Heathrow.

‘It’s great to see you,’ with hugs and kisses they greeted each other.

Arriving back at the house they told Doris about the meeting with Cary Broderick and their new sister.

They all sat down for a meal and Sandra looked at Roy and said, ‘Before I go back to work tomorrow, I think we should visit Dan to tell him the news.’

‘Yes, that would be a good idea.’

They arrived in the early evening at the small dwelling Dan had made home. Sara’s children had just gone to bed.

‘C’mon in,’ smiled Dan when he opened the door.

‘Hello, just a visit to tell you about the trip to Ireland,’ said Sandra.

They all sat down and Sara made a cup of tea.

‘Well, how did it go?’ asked Dan.

‘I don’t know how to tell you this Dan …. but I am your sister.’

‘That is a shock,’ replied Dan.

‘Sorry….’

‘That is a nice shock,’ Dan reassured and put his arms around Sandra as he spoke.

‘We also have a sister, Michelle, in Ireland. Our mother died in an accident.’

Then he asked, ‘What happened to Sam Kemp?’

‘He hasn’t been seen. It is believed he is living in London,’ responded Sandra.

‘What brought you to want the house on the country lane?’ he asked.

Roy replied, ‘We had to move out of the house we were in because the council wanted to take all our local houses to rebuild on the land.’

‘So it was Sara and her children who I thought were ghosts,’ confirmed Sandra. ‘That’s when I ran away from the house and had my accident and you saved me.’

‘Yes, that is correct. We lived there as I was used to the house and we had nowhere to live with the children. I did inform the authorities I had brought Sara and the children over from Syria and was taking care of them.’

The time was 9.00 pm.

‘We’d better go, Doris will be worried,’ said Roy.

‘Thank you for coming and telling us about your visit to Ireland, and giving the good news that you are my sister,’ said Dan to them and gave Sandra a hug. Sandra gave Sara a hug as she said, ‘It’s great you are my new sister-in-law. Call and see us anytime and bring the children.’

Doris had put the children to bed when they arrived back. ‘How did it go?’ she asked. After telling all that had happened and finding out she had a brother who was Dan, Sandra couldn’t help but cry. Doris put her arms around her, ‘We all have each other,’ she consoled.

‘I still can’t believe I have a brother, I’m so pleased,’ said Sandra.
